EPA Adds Site to NPL Based Solely on Vapor Intrusion

For the first time, the EPA added a site to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) based solely on vapor intrusion pathway. The Rockwell International Wheel & Trim facility located in Grenada Mississippi, is a 76-acre site previously used as a wheel cover and chrome-plating facility. The site’s historic operations resulted in multiple releases of trichloroethene, toluene, and hexavalent chromium into the surrounding soil and adjacent wetland. The EPA determined that there was likely a complete pathway from the subsurface source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to nearly 400 individuals of the buildings. Read more…
